Gain hands-on experience in sports management and event planning while living and working in coastal South Africa. This Sports Management Internship in South Africa is ideal for students in Sports Management, Marketing, Business or Event Management who want practical exposure in a professional and deadline-driven environment.
Based in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape, this internship combines career development with beach living and a vibrant international intern community.
About the Internship
ZSports is a professional sporting event management company specialising in the planning, promotion and delivery of mass participation sports events across the Eastern Cape.
In addition, their events promote healthy lifestyles and strong community engagement. As an intern, you gain insight into what it takes to plan, promote and execute large-scale public sporting events — from concept to race day. Therefore, you see both the strategic and operational sides of the industry.
Your Role as a Sports Management Intern
This internship provides hands-on exposure to the full event management lifecycle. For example, you may assist with planning, marketing or live event execution.
Tasks may include:
- Assisting with event planning and logistics
- Supporting marketing and social media campaigns
- Engaging with participants and sponsors
- Assisting with on-the-ground event execution
- Supporting administrative coordination
As a result, you become part of the working team and gain real-world industry experience.
Please note that many ZSports events take place over weekends. Therefore, interns must be flexible and willing to work on weekends when required. However, days off will be allocated during the week to compensate. In some cases, weekend transport is arranged by ZSports or, alternatively, at your own expense via Uber.
Minimum stay: 8 weeks

Why Intern in Gqeberha Instead of Cape Town?

Included in your stay are 3 meals per day, airport pick-up, weekday transport to and from the internship, and ongoing local coordinator support.
Upon arrival, your coordinator introduces you to the city and supports you throughout your stay. Meanwhile, at ZSports, you are supervised by their experienced professional team.
